and so it begins…

A little fact about me – I am slightly obsessed with quotes – many of you may already know this odd fact about me, but if not, you will soon discover it for yourself : )

For years, quotes have challenged and deepened me, caused me to wrestle with preconceived ideas or notions of which I had never taken time to ponder, brought forth joy, hope, laughter and a multitude of other emotions – many important seasons of my life have been marked in my mind by quotes from songs, movies, authors, mentors, etc.  I am slightly embarrassed to fess up to the fact that I have kept a quote database on my computer since my Freshman year of high school that has now grown to almost 60 pages (12 font, single space – ridiculous I know – ha!)

Anyways, I thought it was time to share a bit of these beloved quotes with some of you – my goal is to post at least one quote a day for the next month (this is also in hopes of spurring on some writing of my own that will hopefully be intermingled with the words and thoughts of others).  Please feel free to post any of your favorite quotes on here as well!

And so it begins…

“I want a story that cannot be told in intricate detail.  I want a story that when people ask how I got here, I can honestly say (not in false humility), ‘I have no idea.  My eyes were locked on Him and He lead.'” -Louie Giglio

I pray that is my story

“She smiles, but I laugh!”  -Jane Austen “Pride and Prejudice”

This line is spoken by Elizabeth in regards to her sister, Jane, towards the end of the book – for some reason, I had never read “Pride and Prejudice” until this past year (and I loved it!) – but I remember being so struck by that line and have not been able to shake that idea since – I  realized that I have spent the predominant part of my life smiling, but not laughing – and I want to laugh – I want to engage and not simply go through the motions – I want to risk and dream and struggle and triumph instead of simply playing it safe – this is a daily prayer

and speaking of daily prayers…

“Our Father, who has set a restlessness in our hearts and made us all seekers after that which we can never fully find, forbid us to be satisfied with what we make of life.  Draw us from base content and set our eyes on far off goals.  Keep us at tasks too hard for us that we may be driven to Thee for strength.  Deliver us from the fretfulness and self-pitying; make us sure of the good we cannot see and of the hidden good in the world.  Open our eyes to simple beauty all around us and our hears to the loveliness men hide from us because we do not try to understand them.  Save us from oursleves and show us a vision of the world made new.”  -Eleonor Roosevelt

  1. I just totally randomly stumbled across your blog, and it really made me smile to see this post. I too LOVE quotes, and have also found that sometimes coming across just the right one challenges me in the best of ways. To pay you back for some of the awesome gems I’ve already found here, here are two of my recent favorites that led me to major ah-hah moments:

“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
    -Howard Thurman

“To consider persons and events and situations only in the light of their effect upon myself is to live on the doorstep of hell.”
    – Thomas Merton

Thanks, and I look forward to reading more from your blog!

always love hearing your thoughts...
